As a job coach, the following quote comes to mind: “The best arguments in the world won’t change a single person’s mind. The only that that will do that is a good story.” Richard Powers
Whether you are in a formal interview and get the dreaded “Tell me about yourself” or sitting down for a coffee chat, you must tell your story. Facts are bland, static, and not memorable.
We are emotional creatures. A story will help your listener to connect with you on an emotional level. People hire people they like (including a job coach!)
How do you tell your story? Advice from a job coach:
• Find a recurring theme from your life (data analysis, building teams, do well when chips are down)
• Apply the theme to your first job going through to your current one
• Explain why this theme is needed at your next employer
