Aesthetics and key word search optimization rule the day.

I dedicate this blog to my brother, who is always blocking and tackling for me.

Background Photo

Do you have the boring default blue constellation?  Don’t you want to stand out, grab the reader’s attention?  Notice this background, very fitting for a business intelligence expert who knows machine learning.  The photo has deep colors.  Now you stand out.

Your Photo

Business attire, bust only.  Have it professionally taken, please!

Tagline

Right below your name is a tagline which you control.  LinkedIn defaults to your current position title.  Please no!  The idea here is to mirror your tagline on your resume, showing what bucket you fall into.  This professional… “Business Intelligence Executive | IT Strategy and Execution”.  You know their subject matter expertise and their seniority (“executive” and “strategy” mean senior).

This is a key word search area.  Please use fitting buzz words.

Summary Section

This is another key word search area. Can I say that again, “This is another key word search area. ” Load up on all the buzzwords for your targeted job.  Not your current job.  Your targeted job.

Some of you don’t have a summary section.  I like one to two paragraphs describing the “you” most qualified for your next job.  Also, go ahead and copy your 3 select accomplishments from your resume (see last week’s post, 5 Reasons Why Google and Goldman Love this Resume).

Experience Section

Copy from your resume for each job, noting that your profile is very public.

Skills Section

This is another key word search area. Can I say that again, “This is another key word search area. ” Load up on all the buzzwords for your targeted job.  Not your current job.  Your targeted job.

You get 50, so use them!

Recommendation Section

Recruiters read them.  Yes, even though they are given by friendly folks.  The key here is to write the recommendations yourself and give to the person recommending you.  Control the message.  Have at least 5 please.  Sprinkle your key skills throughout the 5 recommendations.  Control the message!
